Nature-Based Education
Nourishing the creative spirit
The Forest is our Birth Right. The Plants have wisdom for us.
To talk to the moon, the sun, the trees and the rivers is how we will be in balance again.
My teaching philosophy centers on the belief that education should awaken the whole human—mind, body, spirit, and imagination—through deep connection with nature, creativity, and community. I view learning as a reciprocal relationship between student, teacher, and the living world. Rooted in Indigenous-informed nature-based education, I emphasize unstructured play, ritual, ceremony artistic exploration, and storytelling as essential pathways to self-awareness, resilience, and belonging.
I facilitate learning spaces that invite authenticity, creative risk-taking, and emotional exploration. Tending to both in the individual child and the group, through the deep nature connection, supporting the creative spirit and a sense of sacredness, I seek to cultivate autonomy, curiosity, and reverence for both inner and outer landscapes.
I believe that all children deserve regular access to nature, and that a return to land-based learning is not only beneficial but necessary in an age of disconnection and ecological crisis. Through integrating creative practices and Indigenous models of education—such as council, gratitude rituals, and place-based learning—I aim to support learners in finding their “face, heart, and foundation.”
